The Sports Authority program helps is to recruit and retain professional and amateur sporting events; identify existing infrastructure for sporting activities and proposing future infrastructure; and select locations and seek opportunities for private and public partnerships.

The program fosters relationships between state and local agencies, and develops and recommends legislation to further the purpose of the Authority.
